I preach, write, and walk with people through the hardest questions of faith. After more than three decades in ministry, missions, and the academy, I am still surprised by what Scripture asks of us — and what it gives back.

I currently serve as Pulpit Minister at the Northwest Tampa Church of Christ, where I have preached since 2020. Before Tampa, I served congregations in Del Rio, Midland, and Leander, Texas, and planted the Iglesia de Cristo Cuenca Centro in Ecuador, where my family lived and worked for several years. My early ministry was shaped by the people of the southern highlands of Ecuador, who taught me to read Scripture with new eyes.

From 2018 to 2020, I served as Head Chaplain at Val Verde Regional Medical Center in Del Rio, Texas, overseeing chaplaincy for the hospital and its hospice. I am a board-certified chaplain through both the Association of Certified Christian Chaplains and the Spiritual Care Association, and a CPE Supervisor/Educator through the Institute for Clinical Pastoral Training — having completed four units of Clinical Pastoral Education and four units of Supervisor-in-Training, with a specialty certification in grief support. Chaplaincy taught me what preaching could not: how to sit with people in the moments words fail.

I earned a Ph.D. in Spanish from Texas Tech University, a Doctor of Ministry from Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary, and master's degrees in religion and ministry from Abilene Christian University and Lubbock Christian University.

My scholarly work moves between two worlds. In Spanish, I have written on the novels of Alicia Yánez Cossío and other Ecuadorian writers, with reviews in Hispania and essays on themes of exile, belonging, and faith in Latin American literature. In theology, I have written on the sacrificial system and its fulfillment in Christ, on Ephesians, and on the practical theology of evangelism. I am currently at work on essays exploring Scripture's relationship to time and the religious irony in Yánez Cossío's later fiction.

I also direct Beyond All Borders, a nonprofit that partners with communities in Spanish-speaking countries to address poverty and offer biblical teaching.

Predico, escribo y acompaño a personas en las preguntas más difíciles de la fe. Después de más de tres décadas en el ministerio, las misiones y la academia, sigo sorprendiéndome por lo que las Escrituras nos piden — y por lo que nos devuelven.

Actualmente sirvo como ministro de predicación en la Iglesia de Cristo del Noroeste de Tampa, donde he predicado desde 2020. Antes de Tampa, serví a congregaciones en Del Rio, Midland y Leander, Texas, y planté la Iglesia de Cristo Cuenca Centro en Ecuador, donde mi familia vivió y trabajó durante varios años. Mi ministerio temprano fue formado por la gente del sur del Ecuador, quienes me enseñaron a leer las Escrituras con ojos nuevos.

Del 2018 al 2020, serví como capellán jefe en el Val Verde Regional Medical Center en Del Rio, Texas, supervisando la capellanía del hospital y de su hospicio. La capellanía me enseñó lo que la predicación no podía: cómo acompañar a las personas en los momentos en que las palabras fallan.

Obtuve un doctorado (Ph.D.) en español por Texas Tech University, un Doctorado en Ministerio por Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary y maestrías en religión y ministerio por Abilene Christian University y Lubbock Christian University.

Mi trabajo académico se mueve entre dos mundos. En español, he escrito sobre las novelas de Alicia Yánez Cossío y otros escritores ecuatorianos, con reseñas en Hispania y ensayos sobre los temas del exilio, la pertenencia y la fe en la literatura latinoamericana. En teología, he escrito sobre el sistema de sacrificio y su cumplimiento en Cristo, sobre Efesios, y sobre la teología práctica del evangelismo. Actualmente estoy trabajando en ensayos sobre la relación de las Escrituras con el tiempo y la ironía religiosa en la ficción tardía de Yánez Cossío.

También dirijo Beyond All Borders, una organización sin fines de lucro que se asocia con comunidades de países hispanohablantes para enfrentar la pobreza y ofrecer enseñanza bíblica.
