Acerca de
Wisdom and knowledge are revealed. They are not finally assembled from evidence or earned through experience. They come from God through his Word and his Spirit. Everything I do begins there.
For more than three decades, I have preached, taught, and served in congregations, on the mission field in Ecuador, in classrooms across Mexico, Central America, and South America, and at the bedsides of the suffering and dying. I hold a PhD in Spanish and a Doctor of Ministry degree. Those degrees have opened doors and provided tools, but they are not the source. What I have to offer was never mine to generate.
I have spent my life among scholars and among the people of God, and I have learned from both. The ground on which I finally stand is neither scholarship nor inherited custom. It is what God has revealed in his Word and by his Spirit. I have tried to build my preaching, teaching, and writing on that foundation.
Theology exists to bring people into deeper communion with God. That conviction has guided my ministry. I did not arrive at it through professional ambition or institutional advancement. I received it as a calling, and everything I have done has been an effort to live faithfully within it.
If there is any legacy to my work, it is found not in titles, positions, or accomplishments, but in the people whose lives have crossed mine through the ministry of the gospel. The task has always been the same: to proclaim Christ faithfully, serve others with humility, and help people see God’s reality more clearly.
Sabiduría y conocimiento son revelados. No se arman finalmente a partir de la evidencia ni se ganan por medio de la experiencia. Vienen de Dios por medio de su Palabra y su Espíritu. Todo lo que hago comienza allí.
Por más de tres décadas he predicado, enseñado y servido en congregaciones, en el campo misionero en el Ecuador, en aulas de México, Centroamérica y Sudamérica, y junto al lecho de los que sufren y de los que mueren. Tengo un doctorado en español y un Doctorado en Ministerio. Esos títulos me han abierto puertas y me han dado herramientas, pero no son la fuente. Lo que tengo para ofrecer nunca fue mío para producirlo.
He pasado mi vida entre eruditos y entre el pueblo de Dios, y he aprendido de ambos. El terreno sobre el cual finalmente me sostengo no es ni la erudición ni la costumbre heredada. Es lo que Dios ha revelado en su Palabra y por su Espíritu. He procurado edificar mi predicación, mi enseñanza y mi escritura sobre ese fundamento.
La teología existe para llevar a las personas a una comunión más profunda con Dios. Esa convicción ha guiado mi ministerio. No llegué a ella por ambición profesional ni por ascenso institucional. La recibí como un llamado, y todo lo que he hecho ha sido un esfuerzo por vivir fielmente dentro de él.
Si hay algún legado en mi trabajo, no se encuentra en títulos, cargos ni logros, sino en las personas cuyas vidas se han cruzado con la mía por medio del ministerio del evangelio. La tarea siempre ha sido la misma: proclamar a Cristo fielmente, servir a otros con humildad y ayudar a las personas a ver con mayor claridad la realidad de Dios.
